Searching Home is a space explorer game made for the GMTK Game Jam 2026!
Built around the theme Countdown, your oxygen supply is limited, meaning every second matters.
Explore mysterious planets, gather valuable ores, manage your resources, and help our fellow astronaut find a new home before time runs out.
And remember... controlling the rocketship requires skill & accuracy!
🎮 Controls
- A / D or ← → Arrow Keys — Move around the planet.
- F — Enter the Rocketship.
- W A S D Q E — Control the Rocketship.
⛏️ Ores Information
☢️ Uranium
Uranium is the primary fuel source for your rocketship.
Each piece collected restores your rocket fuel, allowing you to travel between planets safely.
Your rocket can hold a maximum of 100 KCAL, so don't forget to refuel before beginning another journey.
🫧 Oxide Ore
Oxide Ore is essential for keeping the astronaut alive.
Running out of oxygen means your journey comes to an end, so always keep an eye on your oxygen level.
🔩 Metallic Ore
Metallic Ore is used to repair your damaged rocketship.
After collisions with asteroids, use this valuable resource to restore your rocket's condition before continuing your adventure.
☄️ Obstacles
👾 Alien Creature
These mysterious creatures inhabit several planets throughout the galaxy.
They are extremely dangerous—touching one instantly ends your adventure.
🪨 Asteroid
Asteroids are one of the greatest dangers while travelling through space.
Avoid colliding with them whenever possible.
- ✅ First collision — Your rocket survives.
- ⚠️ Second collision — Heavy damage.
- ❌ Third collision — Your rocket is destroyed.
📝 Developer's Note
Managing your resources is the key to survival.
Keep an eye on your fuel, oxygen, and rocket condition before traveling to another planet.
Running out of fuel in the middle of space means you'll be stranded forever... 🚀😉

This was a lot of fun to play, it's such a simple yet fun concept for a game.
I quite enjoyed the rocket movement, the jets were a very nice touch, and landing on a planet was a lot smoother than I was expecting.
I do wish that there was a way to walk around aliens if you needed to. Like if you ran into one, it made you lose a certain amount of resources rather than instantly dying.
I also found myself a tad confused at the start with the rocket, I didn't realize I needed to collect resources before leaving in the rocket. Perhaps a text box could help with that.
Overall, really well done, good execution especially for the time given. A very fun experience
